ABOUT SSCS:
Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is one of BC’s most respected and
established community service organizations. We operate within a large geographic area -
from Pemberton to Britannia Beach - supporting individuals and families living in the Sea to
Sky Corridor. We offer 41 programs and services, including early childhood development,
childcare, affordable housing, outreach, counselling, family support, seniors and youth
services, community living services and respite. We provide a range of services that support
our communities and residents through all ages and stages of their lives. Last year, SSCS
served 6500 individuals and families in our region.
Contribution:
The Childcare Coordinator plans, develops, implements and oversees the day-to-day
operation of pre-school and school aged childcare programs. Supervises and supports
Senior Educators and other program staff and volunteers as required.
Qualifications:
1. Early Childhood Educator diploma.
2. HighScope Teacher certification or commitment to complete training
3. Three (3) years recent related experience including one (1) year supervisory
experience.
4. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
5. Valid BC class 5 driver’s license,
6. Valid First Aid Certificate
7. Must be 19 years of age or older.
Job skills and abilities:
1. Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
2. Demonstrated teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of licensing regulations and operating standards.
4. Familiarity with the BC Early Learning Framework.
5. Strong organizational skills including experience scheduling staff.
6. Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
7. Demonstrated experience in planning and chairing meetings.
8. Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and) and data base
experience.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the programs by ensuring that the necessary
facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered
to, and that licensing and program standards are met. This includes overseeing to
ensure that all required documentation (i.e. attendance and children’s records) is
complete, accurate, relevant and current and that privacy and confidentiality
policy and procedures are adhered to.
2. Manages the registration process; communicates with parents/caregivers; monitors
enrolment and maintains waitlists to ensure optimal enrolment.
3. Assists Senior Educators with the orientation of parents/caregivers as required.
4. Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties
such as screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring
recommendations.
5. Supervises Senior Educators and other staff as required by performing duties such as
assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and participating in
performance evaluations.
6. Ensures that program staff is scheduled in accordance with licensing and program
requirements. Reviews accuracy of employee records such as timesheets, expense
reports and leave forms and signs off accordingly
7. May be required to provide coverage in programs to meet licensing ratios.
8. Orients and trains Senior Educators and assists in orientation, mentoring, identifying
training needs and providing training of childcare staff as required.
9. Schedules and conducts regular staff meetings with Senior Educators to discuss, plan
and assess the program’s goals and objectives and review the organization’s
policies and procedures.
10. Mentors and supports Senior Educators on planning and implementing programs
and provides leadership to the childcare teams.
11. Monitors to ensure that programs maintain clean, healthy and safe environments for
children; that health and safety drills and licensing required inspections are being
completed; and follows up on any incidents as required.
12. Oversees the billing process and follows up on disputes or irregularities.
13. Monitors and authorizes program expenditures and ensures that financial records are
maintained in accordance to established procedures.
14. Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
15. Reports to and consults with Manager of Childcare regarding program status and
issues on a regular basis.
16. Liaises with community service providers and other professionals and represents the
organization or program in external events as required.
17. Other related duties as required.
