Our Organization:
Cherish Integrated Services (CHIS) is a registered non-profit social services organization incorporated on May 18, 2010. This organization was founded to provide services and support to promote social inclusion of persons with developmental disabilities in their communities. We are dedicated to provide systematic and holistic training programs with the concept of Structured Teaching as the core program model for the service recipients. We treasure and believe in the uniqueness and dignity of individuals, and aim to enhance their individual social functioning in daily living; help support them to live, work and actively participate in a wide range of daily activities.
As a summer worker, you will have the opportunity to experience the rewarding work of supporting those with developmental disabilities in the community. You will also gain unique professional experience working in the non-profit sector.
Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing summer camp programs for children and youth with developmental disabilities
- Provide and maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment in the programs.
- Understand the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and create appropriate and engaging program activities
- Support campers to manage their emotional and behavioral needs using Structured Teaching and client-centered methods
- Prepare program materials
- Clean and organize the program space before and after each day
- Complete and update campers’ progress report as required.
- Attend and participate in camper-related case reviews and conferences.
- Attend and participate in supervisory sessions with the supervisor as scheduled.
- Report to and seek directions from the Camp Coordinator in the event of serious incident occurrences.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
- Completed High School Diploma
- Previous experience working with Children and Youth in a professional setting, preferably with Special Needs
- Familiarity with approaches to working with people with developmental disabilities
- Must be fluent in English. Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (if over 18)
- All staff are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of hire. Candidates will be required to show proof of vaccination during the recruitment process.
Eligibility (as per Canada Summer Jobs funding)
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

COVID-19 considerations:
All staff are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of hire.
Rapid Tests will be be distributed to all staff.
PPE is provided and sanitation of program spaces is completed every day.
